One Nation: We Are American

In the wake of what has been the most intense presidential election in our lifetime - if not in history - half of our nation is celebrating the new president-elect, while the other sits in grief. We must remember that we ARE one country; united. Indivisible.
The voice of America has revealed what is in the hearts of many, but not all.
So as Americans, we must overcome these incredibly divisive times - from the election to the pandemic, and civil unrest - to come together as one unified nation. How do we do this? It begins by holding space for opinions that differ from our own, by finding it within our hearts to respect and honor the values and beliefs of all of our brothers and sisters across the country, and ultimately, to every corner of our tiny blue planet.
Regardless of who you voted for, it’s likely that we now share the SAME wish - that President-Elect Biden will keep his word, and will help to restore the soul of our nation and unify the American people.

All we have is the present moment. In this age of dramatic change and upheaval, many of us are living anywhere BUT the present. We worry and fret about the future and what it holds. So how do we live in the present moment - and find happiness -amid uncertainty?
In an age of dramatic change and upheaval, many of us are living anywhere BUT the present.
It’s all too easy to get lost “future-tripping” - wondering if we’ll contract the virus with every excursion outside of our home, fretting about our financial futures, or wondering what’s going to happen with our political affairs.
While it can be helpful to think ahead so we can detect threats and make pivots and changes accordingly, the truth is that we cannot find happiness anywhere except the present moment.
So how do we live in the present moment amid uncertainty?
In this podcast episode, I explain how fitness, mindfulness, and breathwork have contributed to my ability to live FULLY in the present moment.
- Calm down and arrive back in your body.
- Reclaim the mental clarity you need to choose your next steps.
- Find what excites you - to ignite you!
- Be HERE... now.

Have your daily wellness practices fallen by the wayside in these tough times? Please, don’t beat yourself up! This is not the time or season to be hard on yourself.
However, please know that there’s no better time than NOW to make better choices that will help you feel (and look) your best.
So starting today, make a list of the ways you could make better choices to nurture your mind, body, and spirit. I suggest you designate a special journal or planner you can use just for this purpose. Intention is powerful! And by making a list, you’ll hold yourself accountable for these wiser choices.
Here are a few examples of the choices you may wish to improve upon:
Could you reduce your sugar intake?
Spend more time in your meditation practice?
Take that nature walk every day after work?
Turn off your cell phone after 8 PM?
Cook fresh, healthy meals at home instead of takeout?
Say “no” to one unnecessary errand or chore?
And as you begin to reintegrate those daily practices that help you calm down and feel better, you’ll begin to reclaim your inner power and your sense of vitality. When you calm down, you DO come alive.

Calm Down, Come Alive Series: Alter Your Expectations for a Better Experience

Our expectations determine how we experience our reality. Learn how to engage in present moment thinking so you can release your preconceived ideas of how life “should” be, so you can embrace and fully wake up to what it is.
Expectation is one of the root causes of our suffering.
Our experience in life is colored by our expectations - expectations of others, of society, and of ourselves. And then, there are also the expectations others have of us.
But, we can let go of our expectations through the power of awareness and present moment thinking.
How so, you might ask?
Consider this story of the Thai Buddhist master and the broken goblet:
“You see this goblet?” — asks Achaan Chaa, the Thai Buddhist master.
“For me, this glass is already broken. I enjoy it; I drink out of it. It holds my water admirably, sometimes even reflecting the sun in beautiful patterns. But when I put this glass on the shelf and the wind knocks it over or my elbow brushes it off the table, and it falls to the ground and shatters, I say, “Of course.”
When I understand that the glass is already broken, every moment with it is precious.”
By learning how to release our expectations, we reduce our suffering and improve the quality of our life experience.
I share a present moment living practice you can begin today so you can wake up to experiencing your life through a whole new lens.
